The Lord’s rebuke here means that God, out of love for His church, is disciplining, correcting it. Why? Because He knows what will happen to Laodicea were it to continue on its misguided trajectory. The issue at hand? Justice. The true Witness in this judgment stands up for justice, but not the justice of this world, which is the punitive justice of Satan. He stands up for the true justice, which is the justice of God. This is the justice found in John chapter 8. 

“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Mercy and truth go before Your face” (Psalm 89: 14).
